International PHP Conference – Spring Edition

At the International PHP Conference – Spring Edition in Berlin, Germany this week, Arne Blankerts and Stefan Priebsch shared their experience on web application operations and security as well as on experiment-driven development and temporal design patterns with the audience.

Arne Blankerts: Beware of the dark side, Luke!

In his workshop "Beware of the dark side, Luke!", Arne Blankerts taught the attendees how attackers gather information, exploit vulnerabilities, and hijack servers – and what they can do to stop them.

Arne Blankerts: Performing Security Audits

Arne Blankerts explained in his session "Performing Security Audits" how to perform security audits, why and how tools can assist with manual reviews, and why a mere scanner-based approach does not work.

Arne Blankerts: Deployment == Annoyment?

In his session "Deployment == Annoyment?", Arne Blankerts showed how easy it is to create custom packages and make use of the power provided by your operating system's package management system to automate the deployment of your web stack and software.

Stefan Priebsch: This way or the other way?

Stefan Priebsch showed the audience in his session "This way or the other way?" how to properly implement Experiment-Driven Development in PHP to continuously run A/B tests in production to enable the business to base decisions on empirical data instead of guesses.

Stefan Priebsch: Change is inevitable (except from a vending machine)

If your application needs to keep track of things that change over time, you must take a step beyond normal object relations or foreign keys in a database. In his presentation "Change is inevitable (except from a vending machine)", Stefan Priebsch introduced the audience to temporal patterns that solve these kinds of problems. He also showed how to effectively implement these patterns in PHP using the Date extension.
