Supporting the Wikimedia Foundation

A "world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge" is the Wikimedia Foundation's vision. We believe in this vision and in giving back to the community. This is why we support the Wikimedia Foundation with free consulting to improve the software that powers Wikipedia and related projects.

Last week, we visited the office of Wikimedia Germany in Berlin after attending the International PHP Conference. Following two introductory presentations, "Can we still develop rapidly with PHP?" and "Measuring code quality in WTFs per minute", we performed an interactive code review of the Wikibase extension for MediaWiki. Demonstrating how a code review can be approached, we discussed different parts of the code from various perspectives, and made suggestions for improvements.

Visiting Wikimedia Germany last week was not our first engagement with the Wikimedia Foundation, though. While we were touring the San Francisco Bay Area last fall, we stopped by the Wikimedia Foundation's headquarter office in downtown San Francisco for an expert discussion. The developers in attendance, both physically in the office and virtually via video call, used the opportunity to discuss current PHP development topics with Sebastian and Stefan.
